Behind the Name

Globechalk combines the spatial sciences with art. The globe represents geodesy: our attempts as humans to simplify the Earth for navigational and descriptive purposes. Chalk is the artistic portion; the artist's implement for cartographic design. Chalk also represents a foundational tenet of the consultancy: privacy. While modern humans leave a trail of spatial data through digital devices, such data are highly identifiable and should be temporary, protected, and erased after use, much like chalk.
